The Apex Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that in a short 8 years has poured back more than $200,000 into the communities of Apex and Cary, is excited to launch its first Flags for Heroes project which will provide an amazing visual display of a field of American flags in the Town of Apex during the week of Veterans Day 2020. Beginning on Saturday Nov 7, flags will be flown on the North Salem Station property at the intersection of Laura Duncan and Old Apex Road.
Flags for Heroes engages the entire community and serves as a much needed reminder to celebrate, remember and recognize the heroes that have served and sacrificed for our freedom, health and safety. In today’s climate, patriotism for our Veterans and those who currently serve feels stronger than ever. Our health care workers, First Responders, and our Armed Forces have mobilized to fend off Covid-19 while community volunteers step forward to feed the hungry, sew protective masks and offer assistance to those who need it. Flying a field of flags for them will show our appreciation and provide continued motivation for our HEROES to finish the task at hand.
So, let us ask: Do you know a Hero? Is that someone who has served in the military, a First Responder, a family member, a nurse in a Covid unit, a teacher? If your answer was yes, would you sponsor a flag in their honor at our Flags For Heroes celebration?
Flags will be flying beginning on Saturday, Nov 7. There will be a public ceremony (with social distancing) to dedicate the event on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov 11; with public dignitaries in attendance, the singing of the National Anthem, and the US Veterans Corps.
There will be a different food truck each evening on Saturday, Nov 7; Sunday, Nov 8; Wednesday, Nov 11; and Saturday, Nov 14 beginning at 4:00pm. This will be a no alcohol, family friendly event. Funds raised through flag sponsorships will go back into the community. The key named charity for this event will be the United States Veterans Corps.
